In many scenic spots, women may have the access to enter for free, so wonderful, isn’t it? And in schools or other companies, they will give some gifts to women. Generally speaking, today is really a nice day for women. But do you know the origin of this festival?

On March 8th, 1857, New York’s clothing and textile workers held a protest against the non-humanitarian working environment, 12 hours of working time and low wages. But finally, demonstrators were besieged by the police and scattered, two years later, in march, these women organized the first trade union in the world.

On March 8th, 1908, 15’000 women marched in New York City, demanding shorter working hours, increased wages and the right to vote. To prohibit the use of child labor, they put forward the slogan: Bread and roses. Bread is a symbol of economic security and rose, a symbol of better quality of life. In May, the United States socialist party decided the last Sunday in February as the domestic women’s day.

It’s a festival that world working women fighting for peace, democracy and women’s liberation.
